Nail’d It: Episode 7 Nail Nightmares
The semi-finals are upon us and Celeste Hampton, Kandi Banks, and Jamie Melcher are back to compete. Celeste says her time management is better this time around; Jamie has mucho more confidence; and Kandi is wearing a nacho print skirt and headband (remember last time she wore an ice-cream sandwich dress) and now has a royal blue hair color! Oh and she wants to show everyone even more of her amazing talent.
Adrienne comes in wearing a royal blue dress that matches Kandi’s hair. The semi-finals quick dry challenge is to create a French manicure with a twist. The challenge must be completed in 60 minutes and the contestants must not use white or pink polish! White and pink are pretty much the basis of all French mani’s so I’ll say that’s a bit of a challenge. And the clients? They’re nurses!
Celeste’s client loves pinks. Ok girlfriend did you not hear what Adrienne just said? No pinks! Celeste suggested some teal ombre nails with gold foils. She’s also adding and EKG line on both middle fingers to act as the smile line in a French manicure. Kandi’s client loves teals, but doesn’t want super loud nails. Jamie’s client loves every color blue and Jamie decides to add lots of bling.
After working for a bit, Kandi’s client decides to tell her that her nails are suppose to be short because of work. WHAT!!??? Are you kidding me! You are telling me this now!!? Kandi, like a champ, revamps the nails. Ya, no big deal, we only have 60 mins for the challenge. Meanwhile, Jamie’s client’s pinky nail is popping off.
Brushes down, nails up. It’s time and Elaine Watson and Tom Bachik are back to judge.
They both love the blue (which also matches Adrienne’s dress and Kandi’s hair) and black half moons with rhinestone trim, but comment on some of the stones being out of place. Kandi’s turquoise tips with lilac half moons and black mini hearts in the center were a hit. Tom and Elaine loved it. They commented on her crisp lines, but could tell which was Kandi’s dominant hand because some of the symmetry was off. Elaine loved the foil on Celeste’s nails, but both judges say that it was a bit hard to see the ombre underneath the foil. They also thought the manicure didn’t reflect that of a French manicure.
Tom and Elaine dub Kandi the winner and Kandi is loving life!
Now for the elimination challenge. The contestants have 7 hours to create a design inspired by their darkest nightmares and the design must include 3D nail art. Jamie decides to create koala bears eating her alive because who isn’t afraid of koala bears?? (WTF?) Kandi is so in love with food, like obsessed, that she decides to create nails based off of a food nightmare. For example, nachos with hair, burger with fingers, etc. hahaha This chick is nuts. Celeste is terrified of zombies. Who isn’t? She creates a zombie that is so terrifying! Great job for someone who says she doesn’t watch scary movies or do scary nails.
It’s the half way mark and it’s time to reveal Kandi’s advantage. Celeste and Jamie have to share tools for the remaining time! Kandi decides to dance around and try to annoy the competitors. No surprise there! My girl Elaine comes in for a visit. Elaine looks a bit confused at Kandi’s nails and advises her to make them scarier. Kandi decides to add maggots and bugs to her nails. Ya, I’m pretty scared of those things, especially if they were in my food. Elaine is a bit confused as to why Jamie chose koala bears but it’s fine because Jamie’s koala bears are AMAZING and horrifying.
Brushes down, nails up! The semi-finals elimination challenge is over. Now lets see what the judges have to say.
Celeste’s nails are terrifying. Elaine agrees (of course, because we’re twins). One nail has a girl zombie with crazy hair (yes hair!) and chains wrapped around her neck and arm. The judges are quite impressed by the girl zombie, but think the other nails fall short.
Jamie has a furry nail as a koala claw and another nail with a 3D koala that has blood dripping from it’s teeth. Tom thinks she embraced the childhood nightmare and executed it very well.
Kandi’s nails have one with nachos topped with hair and maggots, while another nail is eating cereal with water and a mini spider on the nail. I’m not sure if I would be terrified about eating my fruit loops with water. I mean it would definitely be disgusting, but I’m not going to wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat about it. Elaine loves her use of acrylic and 3D, but thinks that the nails weren’t scary enough.
2 for 2! Kandi wins! She gets to move on to the finals! Sorry Celeste and Jamie!
